Our Executive Management


KHALID ABDULLA

Chairman

Khalid completed his articles with BDO Spencer Steward (Cape Town) after completion of his B.Compt (Hons) CTA. He started his own consulting practice and later merged with BDO and became the Managing Director of BDO Consulting Cape (Pty) Limited.

In 1999 he joined the Sekunjalo Group and headed up Sekunjalo Medical Services. He became a Director of the holding company and was instrumental in all the investments within this group, of which one of them is HST.

In January 2004, Khalid was a speaker on behalf of the Department of Trade and Industry at a “Black Economic Empowerment in South Africa” conference, held in Germany and London to promote foreign investments into South Africa. He spoke about “extending ownership” and “an international perspective on providing finance”. Khalid became the Chief Financial Officer of Sekunjalo in August 2007.

DR IQBAL SURVÈ

Deputy Chairman

Dr Survè is a medical doctor, an influential African entrepreneur, a Global business leader and a recognized philanthropist. He is the Founder and Chairman of the Sekunjalo Group which is an Investment Holding Conglomerate with investments in more than 70 Private and Public companies in Africa and was nominated by the World Economic Forum in 2007 as one of the 125 “New Champions” or the Community of Global Growth Companies

Dr Surve has been appointed to and participated in many prestigious Presidential, Ministerial and Public Institutions and Advisory boards. He is a Global leader, a Fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative, a Fellow of the HRH the Prince of Wales Business & Environment Programme as well as being appointed by President Bill Clinton to the Board of Governance on the Clinton Global Initiative. He is a participant member of the World Economic Forum and is also Chairman of the Saudi South Africa Business Council.

ANDREW CONNOLD

Chief Executive Officer

First employed by Siemens SA in 1981, Andrew moved to Plessey SA in the mid 1980s where he gained 12 years of management experience. Following a brief stint at Orion Telecom, and running his own business, he joined Synergy BI in June 2001 as Managing Director. In June 2006 he was appointed as CEO of Sekunjalo TSG.

CHERIE HENDRICKS

Non-Executive Director

Cherie has 20 years of corporate experience as an executive assistant and is a director on the Sekunjalo Investments Limited board and all its subsidiary companies. She has extensive experience in the company secretarial function, marketing and branding.

NAAHIED GAMIELDIEN

Group Financial Manager

Naahied graduated from the University of Port Elizabeth in 2001 with a B.Com degree in Accounting and completed her Honours Degree at the University of KZN in 2002. She joined PriceWaterhouseCoopers in the Port Elizabeth office and completed her articles in 2005.

Thereafter, she held the Financial Controller position at Triopticon (Pty) Ltd until September 2006. She joined Arvin Meritor as Senior Financial Accountant and thereafter moved to Sekunjalo Investments Limited in April 2007 as Group Financial Accountant. Naahied was later appointed as Financial Manager at Sekunjalo Investments Limited.
In 2009 Naahied joined Health Systems Technologies as Financial Manager. In addition to this portfolio, she has been appointed as Group Financial Manager of Sekunjalo TSG.

REV VUKILE CHARLES MEHANA

Non-Executive Director

Reverend Mehana holds a B.Th. Degree (Rhodes University), an AMP (INSEAD Business School, France) and an MBA (De Montfort University, UK) as well as being an ordained Minister of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa.

Originating from Cape Town, his business career started in Human Resources and Organisational Transformation. Reverend Mehana was one of the first Commissioners of the CCMA and has held a number of executive positions in prominent companies including Bulktrans (Pty) Ltd, Lurgi South Africa (Pty) Ltd, South African Post Office and ABSA Bank.

In addition to his Sekunjalo TSG directorship, Reverend Mehana currently holds a number of other corporate directorships including Sekunjalo Investments Limited, The LR Group, Mendo Holdings, Amakapa Holdings and MacDonald Steel. He is also an active leader in non-profit organisations including Ex-Political Prisoners Trust, the National Chaplaincy of the African National Congress, and he is the Chief Scout of the South African Scout Association.

JOHN VAN ZYL

Non-executive Director

John qualified as a chartered accountant and completed his articles at Ernst & Young. He was a co-founder and shareholder of the Plessey Holdings Group, the United Kingdom-based holding company of Tellumat (Pty) Ltd, a South African telecommunications and microwave business, and of the Saratoga Software, equipment and support businesses. He held various senior positions (Managing Director of the Research and Development manufacturing business, Group Finance Director in South Africa, Australia and South East Asia) in the Plessey worldwide group, including a year in the United Kingdom. Johan also acts as Chairman of Tellumat (Pty) Ltd and a consultant to and director of these and other businesses.
